NEWS EFFECTIVE MAY 2013
Congratulations to our Tournament Team!
On April 13, 2013 some of our students traveled to Delaware County Karate Championships in Pennsylvania. Where they competed in both sparring and forms technique against some of the most elite teams on the east coast. Solomon David earned a silver medal for sparring. Mathew Burns, Nolan Kelley, and Olivia Kelley all earned a bronze medal for sparring. Olivia Kelley also earned a silver medal for her form technique. Mathew Burns received a bronze medal for his form. Drew Leto and Carl Echols also did extremely well in the black belt division and all of our team qualified for Nationals this June in Memphis Tennessee! Great Job to Everyone!!
The team is led by Tanja Giles who had this to say, “11 possible medals, and they brought home 6!
All in all it was a great first experience. I talked to all the kids and the parents if they wanted to continue in this direction and the work that would be needed to get them ready to show up and WIN! They all said ABSOLUTELY, so they are hooked. They all represented the school EXTREMELY WELL. They were polite, courteous, and respectful and I never once had to worry about where they were or what they were doing. “
All Students are invited to join the tournament team! They practice every Saturday at CMA from 10am-12pm. We would love to expand our team and have even more students attend our next tournament on May 11th in Waldorf, MD. Please see Ms. Tanja or the front desk for more information.
Private Lessons:
Here at CMA we offer private lessons for that one on one experience with a Black Belt Instructor. You can partake in a half hour or hour session at a time that works for you. During this session you will receive training from a highly certified instructor to help you perfect your techniques. This will help you become fully prepared for your next belt testing.
Private Lessons are highly recommended for all those who wish to perfect their technique. Please see someone at the front desk for more information!
Black Belt Testing on June 1st!
This year we have eight, hardworking, strong, committed individuals who will be partaking in our Black Belt Testing. Our Danbo students who will be testing for their first degree Black Belt will be Cullen Burke, Hunter Grunewald, Mason Horsey, Nick Masters, Nate O’Hara, and Teague Quillin. Brandi Bolt will be testing for her third degree Black Belt and Tanja Giles will be testing for her fourth degree Black Belt and will become a Master of Martial Arts. We are very proud of the hours of training, practice, school work, and community service that these individuals participated in to receive such a high honor. Congratulations and Good Luck to all!

Please see someone at the front desk for more information!
Our Newest Future Instructors
On April 20th, seven of our current students brought a friend to a special class at CMA. During this class those students got to take a turn at being the instructor. They spent the class teaching their friends the basics of karate! They did kicks, blocks, and punches. At the end of the class our new friends got the opportunity to break their first board! Our new instructors also received a patch for their dobok. We are so proud of our students for their great job as instructors! Their friends did amazing jobs as well!
